Heat in Boston, WordPress migration, Sox game
It's pretty hot in Boston today: 100 degrees F (38 degrees C). There
are all sorts of government warnings to stay cool, in the shade, use
air conditioning, etc. I think it's kind of funny that they have to
warn people: you'd figure one's survival instincts would kick in
before you go for a 20K run, let's say, in this heat.
A couple of nights ago the weather was perfect for a Red Sox game.
Four of us went: Will, Ilana, Alli, and myself. We got amazing tickets
(probably the best we've ever had) through a corporate connection, and
the game itself was fantastic, culminating with Big Papi's walk-off
home run at the bottom of the 9th inning. It looks like fellow ASFer
Garrett was the same game!
The game also prompted a fascinating comparison column by The Sports
Guy, comparing Larry Bird and David Ortiz (Big Papi in the above
paragraph) in terms of clutch performances.
Finally, a word on WordPress migration. I wanted to try the automated
WordPress migration tool they offer on a non-trivial blog like this
one (custom external stylesheet, several hundred posts, etc -- not
huge but not trivial). It's an impressive-looking tool, tries to
automate everything, but it failed about halfway through the process
every time I tried it. And when it fails one has to manually recover
