Khao Sarn

After my mediocre dish at Zenna earlier this week, I was craving

better Thai food. So it was a fortuitous coincedence that Dharmesh

suggested meeting at Khao Sarn for dinner yesterday.

I really like Khao Sarn, it's in my top three Thai places. The food is

great: I've never had anything less than excellent there. Last night

we had the interesting Miang Kum appetizer (a bunch of stuff on

leaves, you roll them up after adding a thick dressing, all sorts of

flavors combining...) and I had a great pad see ew. The decor is nice,

the service pleasant if slightly inconsistent. Dharmesh and Alli

enjoyed their food too, and of course the company was the highlight ;)

The prices are a little steeper than most Thai places, but then again

that's how Khao Sarn bills itself. The food selection is great, and to

top if off, Khao Sarn is about 100 yards from our home, which is a

superb advantage in the Boston winter.

Zenna Noodle Bar

A few days ago Alli and I were on our way home, thinking about dinner

options, when we walked past Zenna, a new noodle bar that replaced a

semi-run-down Thai place in Coolidge Corner. It looked good, so we

walked in.

The menu was fairly limited with fewer choices than the typical Asian

place. Alli got the pad thai, a safe choice that proved prescient, as

it was very good. I got a more unusual dish, the yellow dumpling

noodle soup which has shrimp and shrimp dumplings in the soup. It was

bland, even for my fairly mild tastes, and that's saying a lot for a

Thai place.

So Zenna is a decent place, an improvement over the old restaurant

that occupied that space, but not one to come back to, especially
